The
Washington Township Board of Adjustment
The Zoning Board of Adjustment is a nine member quasi-judicial
board appointed by the Township Committee, two of who
are alternate members. Regular members are appointed
to four-year terms and alternate members to two-year
terms. All members are residents of Washington Township
and do not hold elected positions in the Township.
The purpose of the Zoning Board of Adjustment is to
provide relief from Township zoning requirements that
cannot be satisfied. The Zoning Board of Adjustment
is charged with hearing applications for items such
as relief from setback requirements for an addition,
permission to build on lots without frontage on public
streets, permission to allow uses not permitted in a
particular zone, etc.
The Washington Township Zoning Board of Adjustment
meets the first Wednesday of every month. All meetings
are open to the public and public participation is encouraged.
