Requirements for Marriage/Civil Union Licenses
All Information Is Required For both Partners
- Where to apply for Marriage/Civil Union
Application:
- Where the bride lives. If the
bride is out of state, then
- Where the groom lives. If both
parties are out of state then
- Where the event occurs.
- Proof
of residency:
- photo drivers license with a current
address; if you do not have
a drivers license, you can use:
- Utility Bill
- Rent Receipt
- Iinsurance
Card
- Tax Return
- Identification:
- Birth
certificate with parent’s
names
- Passport
- Social Security
Cards are required for both
applicants. If you are not a US Citizen and have never worked
in the U.S. and therefore
do not have a social security card, a social security card
is then not required.
The fee for an application is
$28.00. There is a 72 hour waiting period to get
your license.
One witness
who knows both parties, and is 18 years of age or older must
be present when applying for the marriage/civil union license.
A Photo Drivers license is required as identification for
the witness.
If either party was in a Domestic Partnership/Marriage/Civil
Union with a different partner prior to applying for a
license, either a certified copy
of the final court judgment or divorce papers or a
certified copy of a death certificate is required.
Blood tests
are not required in the State of New Jersey.
You are responsible
for making your own arrangements with a Religious Officiant,
Mayor, or Judge. A Municipal Court, Federal District Court,
or Superior Court
Judge and United States Magistrate may perform the ceremony.
You must provide the Health Department
with the Date, Time, and Place of the ceremony, and the Name
and address of the person who performed the ceremony as required
on the Marriage/Civil Union Application.

County requires appointments for all new Marriage/Civil
Union Applications.

EITHER APPLICANT IS A MINOR
If either applicant is under

a completed written
approval of the parental consent must be given
by a County Judge. |
