Chief Michael Bailey heads the Washington Township Police Department. The Department has three primary components: Operations, Support Services and Administration/Communications. Operations, under the supervision of Lt. Mark Niemynski includes the Patrol Division and Community Policing. Support is under the supervision of Lt. Patrick Monahan, and Communications is under the supervision of CSS Howard Ghetti.

Captain William Gundersdorf administers the two lieutenants and is the designated custodian of records.

Patrol, the largest and most visible part of the Police Department. Patrol consists of twenty police officers who immediately respond to medical emergencies, accidents, fires and crimes. The Patrol Division includes the Community Policing Unit and the P.R.I.D.E. Unit.

Support Services is comprised of Records, Traffic Bureau, and the Detective Bureau.

Administration/Communications, is a 24 hour 365 day operation. Communications has twenty-one full and part time dispatchers who answer emergency and non emergency calls.

Communications dispatches for the Washington Township Police Department, the ChesterBoro Police Department, the Chester Township Police Department, the Mendham Township Police Department, the Long Valley Fire Department, the Schooley's Mountain Fire Protection Association, the Fairmount Fire Department, the Chester Volunteer Fire Company, the Ralston Fire Department, the Brookside Fire Department, the Long Valley First Aid Squad, the Chester First Aid Squad, the Mendham Township First Aid Squad, and Washington Township Animal Control.

FLAG LOT OWNERS

Just a reminder to owners of homes on FLAG LOTS: please maintain your flag staffs by cutting back overgrown brush and trees. There is the potential to prevent or delay getting fire and first aid vehicles to your home in an emergency if the flag staff is not kept clear and free of obstructions.

For those residents who have a common/shared driveway, please mark clearly all the house numbers of the residences accessed by the common/shared driveway at end of the drive.
