As of January 17, 2006, Section 3109.2 of the IBC and Section 102.1 of the IRC define a swimming pool as “any structure intended for swimming or recreational bathing that can hold water 24 inches or more in depth. This includes in-ground, above-ground, on-ground and inflatable swimming pools, hot tubs and spas. In the past, only pools with a surface area of greater than 250 square feet were regulated.
