WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP FARM PRESERVED
August 31, 2004
The Morris County Agriculture Development Board has permanently
preserved the Jayne Farm in Washington Township.
The purchase by the Morris CADB restricts the land from non-agricultural
uses, thus permanently preserving the 183-acre farm, which is located
on both the north and south sides East Valley Brook Road in Long
Valley.
The farm was one of the largest farms in Washington Township that
was not permanently preserved.
The Jayne Farm purchase is made in conjunction with a future grant
from the State Agriculture Development Committee. The SADC is providing
51 percent of the $2,538,648.00 acquisition price, with 49 percent
funded by the Morris County Preservation Trust Fund.
The Jayne Farm purchase increases the total preserved farmland
in Morris County to 4,581 acres on 69 farms.
Washington Township leads the county in the number of farms with
48 and in acres permanently preserved, with 3,538.
Closings on several additional farms are slated for the next three
months throughout Morris County. These pending projects are in Mendham
Borough and in the townships of Chester, Mendham and Washington.
