Katie Knoeringer is a Long Valley resident, and one of Washington Township's Summer Camp Counselors. During the school year she is a student at Kutztown University. Katie plans to graduate in May 2008 with Bachelors in Fine Arts (BFA) and a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. As one of Long Valley's talented young artists, her artwork is currently on display at the Washington Township Library in Rock Spring Park.
Katie says of her artwork, a sample of which is displayed above,
"My combination of realistic rendering and geometric abstraction addresses the point at which the conceptual meets the real."
"Branches represent people and sometimes, more generally, the concrete world. Folded blue and yellow triangular forms stand for thoughts and the process of thinking. Blob forms are negative spaces that have become realized as objects. For this reason, my influences include CY Twombly. I relate to his equal treatment of subject and ground. Alluding only to process and the passage of time, Twombly’s primordial ooze draws no distinction between the importance of one element over another."
"I also admire the work of Josef Albers for his economic use of line to suggest depth. I rely little on creating realistic space within the picture plane, choosing rather to emphasize the relationships between amorphous shapes, like the folded blue fence pieces, and objects, like branches and stones."
