Jessica Bingham of the West Morris Central High School Class of 2007 received the Washington Township Historical Society’s annual scholarship on June 19 at the Senior Awards Assembly. The scholarship was presented by Society member Mary Ann Kordys during the ceremony.
Jessica has been on the high honor roll throughout her High School
career. Since the summer of 2005, she has volunteered at the Washington Township Historical Society Museum and has been instrumental in cataloging over 100 maps, creating displays, archiving documents, and transcribing the book, "A History of Washington Township 1800-1890" by Virginia Allen.
Her research paper on Civil War Medicine for honors English class was published in "The Concord Review". Jessica has been active in the National Honor Society, West Morris Central's literary magazine, Students Against Drunk Driving, the National History Club, and the
International Club.
In the fall, Jessica will attend Honors College at the University of South Carolina and plans to major in History and Spanish. She is the daughter of Sharon and Ken Bingham of Long Valley.
The Washington Township Historical Society is a non-profit organization open to all “those people interested in the history of Washington Township , Morris County , the state of New Jersey , and [to] promote a better appreciation of our American heritage.” New members are always welcome.
