The Washington Township Historical Society launched a campaign on June 29th 2006 to raise funds for the stabilization of the Old Stone Union Church Ruins located on Fairview Avenue in Long Valley.
As many residents know, the Historical Society has been maintaing this site and the surrounding cemetery since inception of the society in the 1960's. The ruins are now at a stage in which prompt attention is needed to preserve and stabilize what remains of this historic building. This is a costly endeavor and financial help is needed to reach this goal.
The first step in the process has been to place collection cans in some of the most visible and popular retail establishments in the valley where foot traffic is heavy. Anyone seeing the brightly colored and marked cans can donate change or bills to help.
Secondly, we have started a mailing campaign to corporations and businesses that service our township. This strategy will continue and grow throughout the summer.
The Stabilization Committee is also planning fundraising events for the fall and would be happy to have anyone interested in helping at any stage of the campaign in any capacity, or anyone wanting make a donation, to please contact us at the WTHS museum by calling (908) 876 9696.
