Ryan Gelsinger recently constructed a path around Koehler ’s
Pond located on Rock Road . Construction of the path took
four days over the end of October to the beginning of November,
and involved the removal of brush and the placement of
mulch for a surface. . Members of Boy Scout Troop 236 and
friends of the Gelsinger family contributed their time
and effort.
The visitors to Koehler ’s Pond, the Department of
Parks and Recreation and the Police Department will benefit
from the improvements to the area. The local PBA holds
its annual fishing derby at Koehler ’s Pond, and participants
will enjoy the improved access, consistent walkway and
increased space for the event.
Local fishermen also enjoy the improved
access to the most productive fishing areas around the
pond. This path will also for picnics and walks. Ryan and
his volunteers utilized the trimmed brush to create wildlife
shelters in the surrounding woods.
All the materials for this project were all donated or
loaned at no cost. This project required a considerable
amount of mulch, all of which was provided and transported
to the site by the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Ryan remarked that “This project had a profound
effect on me. I have . . . a greater understanding and
appreciation of the processes involved in the running of
the town . . and realize how much effort some agencies
take to ensure the protection of the environment”.
Please take an opportunity to visit the area and see
the improvement Ryan and the local Boy Scouts have made
to the path surrounding the pond. Directions to the pond
can be obtained on the recreation pages. .
