Rock Spring Park Benches Refinished

Local Eagle Scout Candidate Completes Project

Benches Refinished

Doug Falcone, a member of Boy Scout Troop 236 in Long Valley, recently completed refurbishing the picnic tables and benches at Rock Spring Park off East Springtown Road, in Long Valley, as part of his Eagle Scout project.

The tables at Rock Spring Park were worn out and in poor condition. Doug worked his way through the bureaucratic process and spoke with the director of Recreation, Elanora Murfitt, appeared before the Town Committee and Planning Board, and obtained approval from all involved. With donations solicited for the materials required, a work crew assembled, the tables were removed from the park.

Sanding and two applications of stain made the tables attractive to use and safe (no more splinters). Upon completion of the renovation, the tables were inspected by the Recreation department and placed back in the park.

Please take an opportunity to visit the area and see the improvement Ryan and the local Boy Scouts have made to the path surrounding the pond. Directions to the pond can be obtained on the recreation pages. Click here for directions.
